With the upcoming launch of Forza Horizon 6 on May 19, 2026 (or May 15 for Premium Edition players), the series is returning to a more structured progression system, and this time, the setting is the vibrant streets and countryside of Japan. The Horizon Qualifiers are your first big challenge, marking the beginning of your journey to becoming a Horizon Festival champion. Here’s a beginner’s guide to navigating the Horizon Qualifiers and kickstarting your career in FH6.
1. What are the Horizon Qualifiers?
The Horizon Qualifiers act as the game's prologue, setting the stage for your entire experience in FH6. You’ll start as a "Tourist" in Japan, and the game gives you the opportunity to prove your driving skills to officially join the Horizon Festival.
- The Mission: Complete a variety of races across the diverse Japanese landscape. This includes Street, Dirt, and Cross Country races that take you through urban districts, mountain passes, and open country roads.
- The Goal: To officially become a Horizon Festival racer, you must finish the Qualifiers and win the Horizon Invitational event. The prize? Your very first Wristband. This is the key to moving from "Tourist" to a full-fledged festival competitor.
2. The Return of the Wristband System
One of the most exciting features of FH6 is the return of the Wristband system, a progression mechanic that requires you to earn your way up to higher levels. Unlike previous Forza Horizon games, where you start as the top dog, in FH6, you’ll need to work your way through the ranks.
- Class Restrictions: Early on, your wristbands will restrict you to certain car classes. The Green and Blue wristbands, for example, limit you to D, C, and B-class vehicles. These will be your entry-level races.
- Progression: As you gain XP and "Hype" (an in-game system tied to your popularity and skill), you will unlock higher-tier wristbands like Purple, Orange, and Gold. These unlock access to S1 and S2 supercars and more challenging events.
- Legend Status: The ultimate goal is the Gold Wristband. This not only unlocks access to the most powerful cars but also opens up Legend Island, a special area reserved for the best drivers. Becoming a Horizon Legend is the ultimate reward.
3. Beginner Tips for Success
Starting out in FH6 may feel overwhelming, but with these tips, you can hit the ground running and make the most of your early hours in Japan.
- Master the "Touge" (Mountain Passes): Japan’s roads are narrow, technical, and full of twists and turns. During the Qualifier phase, don’t worry about top speed. Instead, focus on handling and braking. Tight mountain passes require precision, so practice cornering and smooth transitions.
- Seek Out "Aftermarket Cars": As you explore the map, you’ll come across "Aftermarket Cars"—specially tuned vehicles that are cheaper than buying new cars but offer great performance, especially for tight city streets like those of Tokyo. These cars are often a perfect fit for the urban challenges you’ll face early on.
- Explore the "Discover Japan" Book: In FH6, there’s a new side-progression system where you can collect stamps by visiting landmarks and taking photos. Completing this "Discover Japan" book will unlock Player Houses, such as traditional Ryokans and Tokyo Penthouses, giving you early access to luxurious accommodations as you progress.
4. Key Activities During the Qualifiers
Even though you’re just getting started, there’s a lot to do during the Qualifier phase that will set you up for success as you move forward.
- Showcase Events: These are high-production races where you’ll face off against unique, non-car opponents—like a Bullet Train or a stunt plane. Completing these events provides huge "Hype" boosts, helping you level up faster.
- Car Meets: Don’t forget to check out the Car Meets. These are special events where you can see other players' cars, get some inspiration, and even share your own custom liveries. It’s a great place to get creative and start shaping your personal racing identity.
